Just got back from the Harry Potter movie!

I knew going in that there were going to be a lot of things that were going to get cut out. Overall, I thought they made smart choices with what stayed and what was passed over. I was especially glad about the amount of time they spent on the Occulmency lessons, (which are some of my favorite scenes *g*) especially the flashback of James teasing Snape,. They did completely leave out the mirrors, which I feel may be important in Book 7.

Harry was much easier to deal with in the movie than the book, where I basically just wanted to slap him repeatedly. It was nice not to have to watch a movie version of CAPITAL LETTER!Harry but for the sake of authenticity, I wish that he had been angrier, especially at the end, where he honestly has a right to be. I enjoyed the fact that Harry's being less angsty made a lot of scenes much more fun than I thought they'd be. I really enjoyed the Dumbledore's Army training scenes.

Characterization that I didn't like:
Cho betraying them? I can understand why they didn't have space for Cho's friend, but it kind of sucked that she had do it instead. And making Snape part of that betrayal? I'm pretty sure he didn't have anything to do with it in the books, and it bugs me that he was the convenient scapegoat.

Percy! Glad that he wasn't completely gone, semi-glad I didn't have to actually watch that horrible scene when he writes Ron that awful letter, but sad that I had to see him as a slave to the man. I really hope he gets redeemed in the 7th book ::crosses fingers::

Remus: Not enough! Why couldn't they have put him in scene where the Order breaks Harry out of Privet Drive?

Tonks: I'm not the hugest Tonks fan, but she seemed rather watered down.

Despite these nitpicks, I thought the movie was far and away the best one they've done. Daniel, Emma and Rupert keep getting better every movie, especially Daniel. I loved the way they did magic in this movie, it was beautiful, and beautifully done. The cinematography was impressive, and did a wonderful job of illustrating this director's vision, which I connected to better than any other director's vision. This wasn't a Chris Columbus movie, that's for sure.

May write more when I'm not about to pass out on my pillow
