Jayne took a deep breath and closed his eyes briefly before letting it out. "I ain't angry with you, darlin'," he said quietly, opening his eyes to see her distress. "Just wish you woulda told me, is all. I'd feel less like the bastard I am right now."

He thought for a moment. "River -- what're you doin' here, workin' for Sally, if you're not--" He shakes his head, finally realizing how horrible it was of him to ever assume such a thing of her, and furious at himself for it.
