That was really the only word to describe it. She didn't feel bad, she simply didn't feel herself. She sat up, looking ( Read more... )

As soon as Simon got the message, coming in late from a shift at the hospital, he dropped his keys on the coffee table in his study and dialed her back.

She sounded odd...like she wasn't herself. It was...odd! And enough for him to be concerned.

"River? Is something the matter?"

River picked up the phone with a sigh of relief. Two cups of tea had calmed her to the point where she wasn't terribly worried--other than a strangely familiar soreness and several scratches and bruises, this body was in good shape. It just wasn't hers. "Simon. I think...I'm not sure. I woke up this morning, and ..." She trailed off, unnerved by hearing an unfamiliar voice coming from her mouth. She swallowed. "Simon, I'm not myself."

Simon pulled the phone away from his ear and looked at it. He dialed River's number but...that wasn't her voice. "I'm...sorry, I was hoping to talk to my sist-..."

Her conversation was just unnerving enough to get him to stop. "R-river?"

"Simon, something weird happened. Please, I -- I think I'm in someone else's body. It's too, uh, used," she stuttered, feeling distinctly awkward discussing that with Simon, "to be a new body, and it's not just me changed." She looked down at her unblemished arm. She never even had Simon look at it.
