I seem to be having tremendous difficulty with my lifestyle.

For some reason this quote just won't leave my head. Oh, Arthur. &hearts

PEOPLE! I want to KNOW!!

Who are your favorite bands/artists? Of any kind of music, from any place or era or style. What do you think more people should experience and listen to and explore?

Give me recommendations, opinions, links, whatever you would like!

These are a handful of my favorites, artists and albums that never fail to catch my attention and make me feel the music.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer are one of my oldest and greatest musical loves. An English Prog Rock band, they revolutionized the music industry: Keith Emerson is the man who made synthesizers a viable musical instrument. Trilogy was the first ELP work I ever heard and its songs remain my favorites. Expect strange psudeo-stellar sounds, classical piano, dusky ballads, folk stories, gravelly rock, and a really fascinating musical journey.

Kodo are Japan's most well-known taiko ensemble. These recordings are dynamic, inspiring, and just demand being listened to at full volume, with every beat driving through your entire body. Heartbeat is a collection of their most entrancing pieces, from traditional pieces to fusion to techno remixes. Expect drums, shouts, flutes, koto, harps, singing, and goosebumps.

Hildegard von Bingen was perhaps not the first woman to write music in the early Church, but she's definitely the best known and probably the most prolific. She specialized in laudations and devotionals to female martyrs and her pieces are intensely emotional, the kind of thing that pulls in your consciousness and sets you to flight. Melismatic, haunting, and absolutely gorgeous, the vocal pieces in Voice of the Blood are accompanied by a few modern tributes to Hildegard - Sequentia, who have produced a number of really lovely Hildegard albums, have added instrumental pieces based upon HVB's work (composed by Elizabeth Graver); these interjections are wonderful in their own right and add a lot of color to the chants. And I highly recommend finding out more about Hildegard herself, because she was incredible.

Leahy are a Canadian family band and I can't tell you how much I enjoy their style of modern Celtic music. Their music stretches from Irish and Scottish fiddling styles to lively piano tunes, tap dancing as percussion, and songs that I can't not sing along with. They aren't the epitome of musical prowess, they aren't stunningly flashy. What they are is solid and warm and soothing and full of life and energy and really really wonderful to listen to. In All Things is one of my go-to albums to soothe and brighten up a rainy day.

I would like to point out that there is girly moisturizing soap in our bathroom that came in a purple box and I didn't buy it. This is me smirking knowingly at my Very Manly roommate. He's spending more time nesting than me, these days. Boys.

Job hunt continues. Another six applications submitted before I'd even had coffee this morning. Can't someone at least want me as their secretary?!
