We live in the age of labels...When people want to define who you are by what group they can place you in...As for me...I'll just be myself...The price of being labeled is being limited by someone else's expectations.
I'm annoyed that when some of my friends get married, they're still changing their last name to the guy's name. No discussion of hyphenated names, keeping their own name, the guy taking their name, etc. I just feel like if it were an equal partnership, it shouldn't automatically be assumed that the girl's taking the guy's name.
This isn't anything that annoys me or that I would stop to think about, but I see your point. I, personally, would not say anything like that (you're no longer a Ms.)
As for last names. Its not my place to tell people whether they should keep their last name, take their husband's last name, or have a hyphenated last name. That is a question for those involved and what makes them feel comfortable.
