The thing that bothers me about those commercials is it makes it seem like African women don't know how to manage their cycles without Western intervention. What have they done for millenia before Kotex? Aside from any cultural taboos, I don't understand the issue, really. If it is a taboo, wearing a disposal pad isn't suddenly going to make that go away.

Yes! Good point. That occurred to me while I was in the shower just now. What are the traditional ways of dealing with menstruation? And if it means the girls can't make it to school on those days, what if the girls were supported in learning at home??? There must be many creative solutions.

That commerical REALLY pisses me off. I was remarking on that the other day. They also don't mention the fact that the family might have other worries...like shelter, food, etc before worrying about menstrual pads! That and disposable pads are NOT part of thier culture.
Sigh...i agree, your goods 4 girls sounds better.
