"Damn it!" Aeris yelled as she slammed the front door, leaping off her porch and running away. She really had no idea where she was going to go, but as long as it was away from the family that wasn't really hers, the home that she didn't belong in, and the life she never really lived, that would be fine with her.

She heard the door slam again behind her and ran faster, knowing that if she were caught, she would be forced back into the one place she couldn't bear to stay.

Tonight was the final straw. The teasing she would often get as a result of her mythical beliefs and insight into things she couldn't possibly know had been increasing since she had arrived in this new place after being adopted by the Knightman family. Mostly, she had tried to keep to herself, but being the new kid, she always had people trying to talk to her. As soon as they figured out what she was interested in, they labeled her as a freak and moved on. Now her family was doing the same thing to her. Her discussions on the possibilities and her focus on her stories rather than her homework had her adoptive parents cracking down on her pastimes. She had finally grown tired of it.

Hearing the soft rumble as one of the cars came to life, she ducked onto a side street and ran harder, trying to get herself lost and confuse her pursuers at the same time. After turning down three streets, she slowed down a bit to catch her breath. Some people were staring at her, but others passed by, casually ignoring her.

"Aeris!" She turned sharply, recognizing clearly the voice of her older brother. He hadn't been there when she ran so he had no idea why she could possibly be here. Recognizing that she was out of breath, he caught up with her and kept pace as she started walking faster.

"What happened?" he asked, refusing to fall behind. Aeris stopped and twisted to look at him.

"What happened? What happened?! They did it again, that's what happened! Why is it that these close-minded idiots can never even understand that there may be a possibility that what I say is true!" she yelled, watching as the brother three years her senior thought of how to respond.

"You have to admit, it is pretty...unlikely that what you say could possibly happen," he replied.

"Not you too, Chris! I knew it was a mistake coming here!" Aeris yelled, frustrated. She started running again, knowing that she probably couldn't outrun Chris, but willing to try anyway.

"Aeris! Wait!" Chris ran after her, knowing that if he didn't catch up, who knows what would happen?

Aeris ducked into a side alley without knowing and skidded to a stop, realizing her mistake. She tried to get out, but Chris was at the only exit, and she backed up instead.

"Aeris, I'm sure we could talk about this..."

"I've tried that already. No one will listen, so it's pointless to try anymore." She backed up a little, avoiding a garbage can as she moved back. "I'm tired of this, living a normal boring life when I know that there's something else that could be out there."

"You just haven't let go of your fantasies yet."

"They're not just fantasies, Chris! I don't know how to explain it so you would understand, but I know there's something out there! I've been having this recurring dream since I can remember about this one place. It's somewhere, I know it. And I'm tired of living here if it means that I can't have the freedom to look for it."

"What makes you so convinced that it's real then, if you've only seen it in dreams?"

"I know things. Chris, you can't say you haven't noticed it too. I know things that even Dad says no one my age could possibly know. No one any age could possibly know." Aeris looked behind her, noticing that the wall was right behind her and Chris, though far enough back not to intrude in her personal space, drawing nearer.

"You're fifteen. Isn't it about time you let go of your ideas of dream worlds and imaginary friends?" Aeris noticed something different about Chris's expression this time. She barely heard the last word, as it was whispered, and his face took on a shocked expression.

Aeris sensed something behind her and turned around, only to have her face match her brother's.

There was something in the wall, a swirling black mass that was increasing in size. Soon enough, it was large enough that Aeris could fit through if she ducked down a little bit.

She wasn't entirely sure what was going on, but she knew this is what she was looking for all along. She turned back to her brother, backing so that she was closer to the hole in the wall.

"Let go, huh? Tell everyone bye for me. I'm out of this place," she said, turning to walk into the hole.

"Aeris! Wait!" Chris ran to the wall, trying to reach her, but he was too late. Aeris disappeared into the hole and it closed up, leaving him in an empty alley.

Hope you enjoyed.
