October

What is it about October? It was on October 23, 2007, that my father passed away. He was septic from an acute abdomen, with a mind that had gone from normal to bizarrely abnormal a month before, and rather than put him through the torture of surgery and maybe a physical recovery, I elected to ask for comfort measures. We held his hands while he ( Read more... )

I'd thought about the connection to October today too.... wondered how the timing was hitting you...
And so very aching that she didn't get to meet your little one!!!

I don't really have any words. Just sitting with you, in this, in tears....
Thinking how like my grandmother who passed years ago, your mom was - the gnarled hands from arthritis, the love of music, Jerusalem *gentle smile*... Friday evening traditions..
Family traditions - They ground us don't they... and give us something to hang onto in the midst of excruciating pain.
I can hear her laugh. See her smile. Almost hear her sing...
She always inspired me... especially after she'd shared some of her life story...

Here. With you. For you. *in tears*

"When tears like a river attend my way" has come to me to the tune of "It Is Well With My Soul." A mother can never be replaced. I cry amidst memories of reaching my little hands up to the tall cherry piano bench where my mother often sat late at night, most memorably playing Panis Angelicus. The piano was played by my great grandmother, a music professor at some college in Johnson City, TN. The bench was made by my beloved grandfather from cherry trees on his property, reminiscent of the trees I used to love to climb & pick from there. I'm lucky to have my mother alive. Just the other day, she wrote a hymn & sang it to me on the phone.
I'm more determined this morning to get the pegs on one of my grandfather's old violin's to stick (an ongoing trial). Today I have a play date with a friend who has decided to learn to play the viola.
