Morning Discussions

Luke looked both really hot and really cute moving around in Noah’s kitchen dressed only in his underwear and one of Noah’s t-shirts. It did something to Noah to see Luke walk around the room like this was his kitchen, his home - it made his stomach flutter, and his heart beat a little more rapidly. Luke looked like he belonged here. Noah wasn’t sure if that scared him or delighted him.

Luke came over to the table with two steaming mugs of coffee. He set both mugs down on the table and slid one over to Noah before sitting down. “There you go,” he said, smiling at Noah across the table. “Don’t you just love having someone make you coffee in the morning?”

“I love having you make me coffee,” Noah said, taking a careful sip of his mug. “You’re actually pretty good at it.”

“Actually? Pretty good? What’s that supposed to mean?” Luke clearly tried to look indignant, but he wasn’t particularly successful. He was too giddy. And he wasn’t the only one.

“Nothing! It was meant to be a compliment. Accept it and be happy.”

Luke’s smile softened. “I am happy, Noah.” He rested his hand on the table, palm up in invitation. Noah immediately slid his own hand forward, finding Luke’s. “I’m very, very happy.”

Noah replied with a soft “me too”, and then they both just looked at each other across the table. It was pretty incredible to feel this connection again, to finally be at a point where they were both ready to share their lives with each other again. Noah would have liked to say that he always knew they would get there, but that would have been a lie. It wasn’t easy, waiting for Luke and knowing that he was back in Oakdale, mourning someone else. Not being sure how Luke felt about him. If there were any feelings left at all.

Now, with Luke smiling at him like he was the most amazing thing in the entire universe it seemed kind of silly that he ever doubted it, and Noah felt himself blush a little under that warm, intense gaze. It was going to take some getting used to, having Luke look at him like that again. It used to make Noah feel so amazing, so special, and he was quickly discovering that it still did.

Noah wondered if maybe this was the thing he missed the most when they were apart.

“So,” Luke said at last, his thumb moving slowly back and forth over Noah’s hand. “Are we going to talk about it?”

“Talk about what?”

Luke fixed him with an entirely different kind of look this time, a you-know-what-I’m-talking-about look. “You know what. That thing we both very deliberately left out of the conversation yesterday. We may be back together, and we may have had the world’s most amazing sex last night…” He grinned at Noah, who could only grin back, because yeah, Luke was definitely right about that. “But we still have stuff to sort out.”

Noah knew that. And he knew what Luke was talking about, of course he did. He didn’t know why he pretended not to. He was just worried - okay, scared - about what Luke was going to say. Noah knew what he wanted. But maybe Luke wasn’t ready for that.

Noah let out a slow breath. “Yeah, I know. Stuff like… living arrangements.”

Luke nodded. “Yep.” He paused before continuing, “Me moving to L.A. doesn’t necessarily mean that we have to live together.”

“No, of course not,” Noah agreed, albeit a little half-heartedly. “We just got back together, so maybe it’s wise to take it slow.”

“Yeah, exactly.”

There was silence. It felt a little awkward, and Noah took a sip of his coffee just to have something to do with his hands.

“So, no living together then,” Luke said.

“I guess not,” Noah said reluctantly, trying not to let any disappointment show. The truth was that he wanted nothing more than to live with Luke. It was soon, yes, they had just gotten back together, but… He wanted it. Badly.

But Luke clearly wasn’t ready, and that was probably for the best anyway. They would still be in the same city, and they could spend the night at each other’s place all the time. It would be great.

He looked up to find Luke’s gaze on him, considering. “Noah? It’s what you want, right? Us not living together, for now at least?”

“Yeah,” Noah replied quickly. “Yes. I mean, it’s so soon, it would be kind of crazy to just…” He forced a smile, motioning with his hand.

“Yes, it would be,” Luke agreed.

Only… there was something in his voice that made Noah question whether Luke was being entirely truthful. If maybe there was something he wasn’t saying. Like maybe…

“Luke? Do you… do you want us to live together?”

Luke shook his head. “It doesn’t matter, Noah. We’ll move in together when we’re both ready to. Until then-”

Noah interrupted him. “No, Luke, that’s not what I’m asking. Do you want us to live together?”

Luke just looked at him for a long time. Finally he sighed and closed his hands around his coffee mug. “Of course I do, Noah. I want to be with you as much as possible, and living together… that’s something I’ve dreamed of ever since the first time we shared an apartment. But clearly you’re not there yet, and that’s okay. I understand.”

Noah had to smile. Luke was adorable when he tried to do the right thing, or, what he thought was the right thing, when what he really wanted was the exact opposite. Actually, that seemed to be what they were both doing right now. Noah leaned forward a little, enough to pull one of Luke’s hands away from his mug, so that he could link their fingers together again.

“Okay.”

Luke looked confused. “Okay, what?”

“Let’s live together.”

Luke’s eyes grew a little wider. “Really? Please don’t say that just because I-”

“I’m not.” Noah squeezed Luke’s hand. “I want us to live together. More than anything. I just got the impression that you thought it was too soon.”

Luke grinned and shrugged. “I just… well, it’s a little crazy, isn’t it?”

“A little bit.” Noah grinned too. “But I don’t know, I kind of want to be crazy with you.”

Luke laughed a little, almost a giggle. “Me too.”

“So…,” Noah said, completely unable to stop smiling. “Roomies, then?”

“Roomies,” Luke confirmed with a small nod and a smile that could not get any wider. He got up from his chair and moved around the table, seating himself on Noah’s lap. Noah wrapped his arms around his waist. “We should seal that with a kiss, don’t you agree?” Luke murmured as he propped his arms on Noah’s shoulders and moved in to kiss him.

“Mmm,” Noah murmured into the kiss. Luke was an amazing kisser. Noah wasn’t sure how he had been able to go without it for such a long time. He knew for a fact that he never wanted to do that ever again. “How about we seal it with more than just a kiss?” he suggested, pulling away just a little, just enough to get the words out.

“Hell yeah,” Luke whispered breathlessly against Noah’s lips, diving in for another kiss. It didn’t matter that they finished their last round of ‘more’ only an hour ago, or that they had kept themselves very busy for a large part of the previous night. At this point, Noah could not get enough of Luke, and it thrilled him that they were clearly on the same page about that, as well as about the living arrangements.

Maybe he should be worried, about moving too fast and about what the future might hold for them. But this wasn’t the time for that. Right now, Noah was happy. And hopefully, this was just the first of many, many happy days. With Luke.
