Break out your wallets moms and dads it’s that time of the year again! Christmas? Birthdays? Nope-fund raiser time! **UGH** It’s the time of year where schools all across America hype up little girls and boys with prizes and parties for selling tacky overpriced junk. I'm not too terribly upset with the principal, it's mainly the PTA that runs these or at least that is what I've been told. I don't think Mr. L likes these anymore than any other parent--he's sort of stuck in a damned if I do/ damned if I don't role. It's the PTA that sponsors these parties and prizes that gets my goat. They have this if you’re not with us then you’re against us mentality.

I hate them, too. regencylady August 11 2005, 14:45:04 UTC
Most I throw away telling the kids we don't try to sell things to people because it makes them feel uncomfortable like they have to buy. Now and then I have to deal with an adult from the school. Then I ask what percentage the school is making and I write a check for what would have been a reasonable purchase. They can't complain because they get the money and I can spend less.

My mother-in-law likes to look them over, and of course my kids always see the candy and cookie dough they sell and it's like"PPPPPLLLLLEEEEEAAAASSSSEEEEE order some candy, me want CANDY!" There is no way I'm spending $8 for 6oz. of candy when I can go down to the supermarket and spend .89 cents for a Hershey bar.
I just hate that whole guilt trip the PTA ladies try to put on you. If you don't sell X amount of stuff the school will suffer. **rolls eyes**
