It's a shaman

Shammy - possibly the most annoying abbreviation ever.

It's not even a contraction - it's got the same number of letters, the same number of syllables. Why even bother? Do people like referring to their characters as washcloths?

I don't get it.

Cause ending things in y is fun! Shammy, not Chamois, and really its kinda apt, since in end game you're usually there to cleanse and heal... XD

Shaman ends on a harder note. Say 'annnnnn". Notice effort involved. Compare that to an abrupt 'ee' which is easier by a fraction. A softer sound? So, shammy. Also used affectionately. lock, shammy...

Also may have simply happened because paladins were abbreviated to pally for ease of saying (syllables etc) and since shamans are often seen as the counterpart to paladins, may very well have just come from pally/shammy.

Makes more sense when it's said than if it was being typed, though. Typed it doesn't make much sense to abbreviate the sound when you're not working with the sound but the word... but... I suppose people think of how things sound as they type, a little.

People think of how things sound as they type constantly. Otherwise no one would be able to understand when someone wrote "HUUURRR! HURR IS YOUR STUFF!" or "MOOOOOARR! STUFF!" etc ;)
