I'm going to put a long and ER related rant under a cut, because even I'm sick of hearing about it.
I seriously thought I was kidding when I said that E.R. was about John Carter from the very beginning to the moment he left. The more I think about it though, the more I realize just how right I was. Now he's back for the end. This episode was titled "The Beginning of the End". John Carter returns for an "indefinite" stay in Chicago, and wants to pick up some shifts at the ER.
The rest of the episode isn't really worth mentioning at all. Carter has some sweet and meaningful reunions, but the current regulars are boring as hell. I can't bring myself to care about a single one of them. But, in the end it's revealed that Carter has cancer. He's dying. If you've ever seen the finale of Babylon 5, you'll know where I'm going with this.
John Carter was always at the heart of ER, and back in 1994 the show glowed with the chemistry of the original six. He's the catalyst for bringing everyone back, and I DON'T LIKE IT. Doctor Greene died of cancer, and it's not okay with me.
I love the original six, and in my rewatching, I can't see why the show continued after all of them had left.
I have serious issues letting go....
I'm such an emotional basket case I will be so surprised if I make to the end of Battlestar Galactica.
