This is a column written by a co-worker of my dad's at the Courier Post. It was never published...for reasons that are probably obvious. I figure the least I can do is publish it here.
Media has been hit really, really hard. with newspapers not making nearly as much money as they did before Craigslist, and with the bad economy, news outlets are cutting out the bread and and butter they relied on to keep their readers coming back every day. Newspapers are a dying medium, and its so sad to see it go...
Sorry, I'm not trying to be patronizing or offensive; Tom's dad works at the philly inquirer, and we're all worried he could be laid off any day now. Its just the crazy times we're in, not just economic downturn but also how everything's online. Cable channels are also losing mass amounts of money/ firing tons of employees because viewers are going online instead. I'm not saying your dad and his friend will be out of jobs because newspapers are struggling; I'm saying very likely the company will start putting much more emphasis on online content, and your dad will very likely be working with online content more than the actual paper content.

My brother is majoring in journalism. I hope he doesn't have problems finding or keeping a job (he graduates in 2012).
This economy is killing everyone. :(
