Thank goodness the night passed reasonably peacefully where I live.  There were a few skirmishes but there were so many police out on the streets that nothing serious occurred

I live in Los Angeles. You would never know that anything bad happened here but it did and somehow we did manage to recover...

I do not live in the getto areas but I know someone who did and would go visit him....you would never be able to tell now that the riots ever happened...

Exactly. Riots happen and have before in London (Brixton, poll tax riots etc).

Countries and people have a way of bouncing back.

London will go on, they have bounced back from worse things in worse times. (Think WWII, the Blitz

England will come back from this the same way the US came back from hurricane Katrina: One step at a time, cleaning up and bandaging wounds and drying tears as you go...
