I'm researching tablets to decide if I want to go for an iPad or something else. What I want out of a tablet is multi-touch, pressure sensitive screen for reading e-books, CBR, and sketch on. Windows anything is not acceptable, *nix, Android, etc. are ( Read more... )

An android tablet is supposed to come out soon... and be able to do many of the things the IPad cannot. So you might research that, and wait.

I've actually been looking at those and haven't seen any iPad killers. Still no flash. Most of the tablets are multi-touch, but not pressure-sensitive. I've seen lots of boasting about this or that tablet being an iPad killer, but a categorical failure of doing what I need it to.

So far I've looked into:

* HP Slate - Didn't look too deep, because it's Windows.
* Dell Streak - They haven't shown anything larger than an iPhone, and I already have an iPhone.
* Compal Tablet - Bad UI reviews, no mention of pressure-sensitivity. Runs Android.
* Notion Ink Adam - Multi-touch, but not touchscreen (and not pressure-sensitive), so I might as well get a MacBook and get more functionality.

Which means based on my parameters, the iPad still looks like the best contender.

There's also the Flash issue, but nothing except Windows boxes have Flash yet. Android will supposedly have Flash this year, but it doesn't yet, and I expect Apple to have Flash within 1.5yrs of Android having it.

The Notion Ink Adam does have a multitouch touchscreen. It just ALSO has a touchpad for more precise control.

Also the Notion Ink Adam has flash right now. I've seen videos of it playing Youtube videos in the Android browser.

For me, 160 hour battery life out of a Pixel Qi display is way more important than pressure sensitivity, but YMMV.

My desire for a tablet is admittedly more specialized than most, as I want it primarily to do digital colored sketches out and about, and no pressure sensitivity is a big handicap for the line fluidity. It's like having the ctrl key broken. I can work around it, but it's a major annoyance.
