Hi, newbie here! *waves*

Am I to understand that only people with paid accounts can tweak their LJ's around to have a specific layout? Coz I've only got a freebie one and would like a layout, but I can't seem to find where to stick all the info.

Sorry if this is an obvious question, but I can't for the life of me figure it out! :(

Hi! I'll try to help you here!
Once logged in at Livejournal.com, hover over the MANAGE tab in the upper navigation bar.
Go to CUSTOMIZE
Then, make sure you have the style setting to "OLD SYSTEM S1" and not "NEW SYSTEM S2".
This is only if you have OVERRIDES (which would be given to you if you got an actual layout from a community like this one (However I wouldn't suggest using these layouts of your new). You just plug the overrides into the box and make the necessary changes. You'd really have to have an individual layout in mind for me to help you any better!

Or there are many other layout communities available as well :) I'd be more than happy to help you with any questions about livejournal or layouts :)

OH! I almost forgot! No, you don't have to be a paid user to use most of the layouts availabel. If you do have to be paid (it would be in S2 style), then it would say so in the layout notes! :)

Hi, thanks for the tips!

I was just wondering if you could point me in the direction of how to make your own layout? I've got some pictures that I can use and stuff, but I just don't know how to put it all together.

I've had a look at healersmoon's layout text that I nabbed, plus a couple of others I've got, but I don't want to go copying and pasting stuff just in case I unwittingly do something to her lovely work!! I want it to be all nice and honest!

:D

Welcome to Lj, dear!!:)

People with paid accounts can use the Advanced customisation, and make their own individual layouts and the like-lol I wish I could expand, I have never managed ot figure how that works out*blush*- but free accounts as well as paid ones can use the gorgeous layouts you see here and all over lj!;)All you have to do is go to Manage>Modify Journal; there'you'll see an option asking what style you are using, S1 or S2; choose S1 and then go back to Modify journal; then, go to the layout you want, and follow the instructions there-you basically have to copy/paste the codes provided with the layout into the window thingie you'll see in the modify journal screen!;)After that, just change username where you see it in the codes, type in your own links-saving the images to your own server(photobucket etc) is usually advisable, so you have to change the urls for those too;)-and...you have a lovely journal, all ready to use and admire!;)

I hope that helps!:)

Oh thankyou so much, you're both WONDERFUL!! :)

I get it now. I'm using S2 at the moment coz a friend of mine said it was better...I figured out how to put on a background and change a few colours but that was it.

Woo! I'm going to go and have some fun now! Thanks again!! oxoxxox

If you check the "Instructions" on the right side of the sidebar on the main page, it will also give you some help in addition to that below. I'm working on getting some of the old layouts with screen shots, as now the livejournal test servers are null and void. But if you have a specfic layout that you want to see, let me know and I'll fix that one first.
