So it finally happened. I'm that guy. I'm that guy that cares more about the grade then about learning. I saw them all the time in highschool. They were the ones that knew nothing of the subject, but crammed the night before on very specific things and got good grades, while I could run circles around them, but was tripped up on mundane details. I started thinking about if thanking someone for doing something that they were supposed to do anyways made any sense.

It's a nice offset to the people who get bitchy when you don't do something you're not supposed to do (e.g., letting people off the bus in the middle of the road.)

1) what is a velocity profile? 2) I'm glad I now know how those stoplights work 3) while I may not understand what you're talking about with velocity profiles and "a stream flowing between two plates scenario", I'm more than happy to listen without falling asleep. Thank you for keeping me sane and educating me :) Carbs, chemistry, and the differences in Greek and Roman religion. Thumbs up for random conversations :):)

I prefer the "steak and potatoes between two plates" scenario. It is tasty. And about the thanking people for things they are supposed to do, it is a social convention which expresses our feeling that we are not using the people solely as a means. We thank them to show them that we still think of them as people, not just things there to do shit for us. Although thats how I feel. Now drive me to where I want to go. NOW!
