Wheels within wheels

Just to continue the story....

I Have Acquired Wheels.

On the advice of an acquaintance at a horse show several weeks ago, I checked a local IP's homepage and thence to its classifieds. There, for the right price for a middle- aged car, was a Dodge Intrepid, '04, more miles than I wanted and less mileage (a 6- cyl., not an economy car.) I ended up getting it anyway; my mechanic looked it over and took it for a drive and passed it. I went up and down mountains in it. And it was only a few miles from my cousin's, half an hour away from here.

Now, I like my wheels, but I will say that I reserve my enthusiasm until I've had it a good while longer; as the saying goes, buying a used car can be buying someone else's problem. But so far, so good.

I sold the old one. There's a guy here in town who fixes up Metros for a hobby. He looked at it and said he had an engine to fit. He paid me more than I'd been offered for parts (if not by much; still....)

I did say I thought God might do something interesting. I think He did. My whole- life policy is still with me; the amount I could borrow from it covered all but some of the tax/ tags/ notary/ official stuff. So, I own the car; I've only borrowed my own money. Which simplifies the insurance and all.

If I'd had the $$, I'd have celebrated by going to BreyerFest. Alas, getting a car that can make the trip meant I had no $$ to spare for it. Anyway, I've been assigned (involuntarily, be it noted) to 12- hour shifts when part of the factory moves to 24/7 operation in a few weeks, and my vacation had to be shuffled around. More on that later; there are advantages, I just don't care for any of the machines I'll be assigned to.

So. Today I needed hay. I had OT last night and so didn't have time to go get hay Friday; after doing car things all week, I needed to sleep, badly. I napped when I got home, went and put forty bales on my pickup by myself, and failed to get home in time to go see Harry Potter this afternoon. (But the guys have hay for a month. Cheaper than last year despite the gas prices, since we had such a nice wet spring; nice dry hay, too, since we've had a few dry weeks.) So, I go get cleaned up now and go this evening to the movies. I have to splurge and pay the full $7.50, though. Plus $2 for 3D glasses. Maybe.

And that's it. My writing projects will be happy that I can sit at the computer without falling asleep this weekend.
