SG-1 Gen Fic Day

Oct 21, 2007 12:25

In honor of sg_fignewton's requests for SG-1 Gen, I'll play. She's looking for comment fic, drabbles, team fic, anything gen, including WIPs. I can't whip up a team drabble or a nice short gen fic because I don't work that way. So, I can at least oblige with the WIP part as I work on finshing up a teamfic that should get posted soon.

Warning: these are WIPs that I have no time table on since I have RL stuff, original fic, and the teamficathon to finish. But they will be finished. I've invested too much time in them. Also, as WIPs they are unbetaed. I haven't cleaned up the rpose, the dialogue, or my nasty fic habits. So if you hate WIPs, especially ones without a set end date, skip this, and go and find ways to celebrate SG-1 Gen Day ;)

Ghosts in the Machine Scene
Daniel was the first to rise the next morning. He yawned, rubbing the sleep from his eyes, before he slipped on his glasses and packed up his equipment. He was eager to get exploring, to see what this world had to offer. He didn't think the rest of SG-1 would mind if he snuck a quick peek.

Only, he'd forgotten that Teal'c had last shift.

"Are you planning on leaving the camp without us, Daniel Jackson?"

Daniel froze, turning to find Teal'c sitting upright, wide awake, his hawk-like eyes studying his every move. Daniel wasn't even going to try to fight this battle. He sighed and slumped his shoulders, allowing his pack to slid off his back and hit the ground with a thump.

The commotion had the immediate effect of waking Sam and Mitchell, both light sleepers by practice. The minute they caught Daniel prepped to leave, they offered their best frowns.

"You going all rogue on us?" Mitchell asked, quickly packing up his stuff.

"Since thou are not sure of a minute, throw not away an hour," Daniel said with a self-satisfied smile.

"Is that supposed to be 'the early bird catches the first worm?'" Mitchell asked, coming to join him.

"Something like that," Daniel muttered.

"We should probably mark our path as we go," Sam said, ending their little debate. She shouldered her own knapsack, grunting as she set it in place. "The forest looks think in areas. We don't want to get lost and lose access to the only clue as to what brought us here."

"So, are you saying it's a transportation device?" Daniel asked, unable to help himself as they started their trek through the forest.

Sam just glared at him, but even Daniel could tell it was just for show. The two of them exchanged a knowing glance before joining Mitchell and Teal'c.

The four of them trekked through the forest. Sam was right; the woodland was thick in some areas, making travel difficult. But it wasn't anything they couldn't handle. Daniel had seen terrain far worse than this before.

Still, the hike was a challenge. Daniel grabbed onto long draping branches in order to give him better footing over the knotted roots and decaying stumps that littered the forest floor. Though nothing could stave off the thorny bushes that gnawed at their ankles. For the tenth time that morning, Daniel had to stop to untangle himself from the grappling vines. And they hadn't even been traveling for very long.

"You coming Jackson?" Mitchell called out to him, a light teasing to his voice.

Daniel just swore and kicked at the offensive shrub. "I'll be there in a minute," he said under his breath. This was precisely why he preferred to work in the desert. He kicked again. "Just a second."

Finally, Daniel dislodged his foot from the underbrush. He rotated his joint, hearing it crack, but at least he had the circulation going again. Satisfied, he repositioned his pack and started back toward the others, only to stop in surprise when he found a small girl peering at him from behind a large tree.

"Hello," he said. "My name is Daniel. Who are you?"

She screamed and darted off into the woods, leaving Daniel stunned. He stared after her.

"What the hell was that?" Mitchell asked. He had backtracked to Daniel's location, along with Sam and Teal'c.

"I don't know," Daniel mumbled. When the three waited for him to continue, he shook his head. "I mean, it was a girl. A little girl."

Sam stared off into the general direction where Daniel had seen the girl. "I don't see anything," she said.

"Nor do I," Teal'c said.

"Well, she was there," Daniel said, feeling defensive. He stared into the forest, waving his hand vaguely to where the girl had been standing. "She took one look at me and ran off screaming."

He heard chuckling. When he turned around, he saw all three of them fighting to keep a straight face. Daniel sighed.

"Nah, I'm not gonna say it," Mitchell said with a grin. "It's too easy."

"Well, I'm telling you. She was here."

Teal'c eyed him closely. "She could not have just vanished."

"Unless she was a ghost," Mitchell said, still smirking. "You seeing ghosts, Jackson?"

"I don't believe in ghosts." He straightened himself and started back into the woods. He took a step forward.

"Whoa, hey!" Mitchell shouted.

Daniel didn't answer. He started jogging through the woods, searching for any sign of the little girl. She had to know the forest well enough to appear and disappear at will. From what Daniel had been able to see, the girl had been wearing tailored clothing. That meant there had to be a town or a village nearby. And that meant they were close to better understanding where they were.

At first, Daniel saw nothing but trees, trees, and more trees. There was no sign of the little girl. He was beginning to become frustrated. But then he saw her.

And he wasn't the only one.

"Hey!" Sam called, pointing to her left.

The girl darted from behind another one of the trees, slipping easily through the nooks and crannies of the forest. Daniel took off after her.

He ran through the forest, weaving in and out of the heavy overgrowth. He knew he was at a disadvantage; the girl was both much smaller and much more nimble than he could be. But he managed to keep her in his sights. Just a little bit farther and maybe he could convince her…

Daniel slammed into the invisible wall.

He was thrown backwards, smacking his head against the thick earth. Dazed, Daniel remained lying there for the longest time, rubbing his sore nose. Somehow, he thought maybe he should have seen that coming.

At some point - he wasn't sure when - Sam and Teal'c came to kneel by his side. They helped him stagger to his feet, while his body tried to overcome the tingling sensation that had overwhelmed his every muscle. He even felt the vibration in his bones. Daniel leaned onto Teal'c for support.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me, Daniel thought with a sigh.

Sam moved to the edge of the invisible wall, gently tapping her finger against it. There was a spurt, like an electric charge, that caused her to recoil in shock. As she nursed her hand, she frowned, studying the web pattern that her touch left in its wake.

It quickly faded.

"It's similar to what Aris Boch used, but it's not the same," she said.

"Intergalactic bounty hunter," Mitchell said. "Right?"

Teal'c nodded. "Indeed." He steadied Daniel before scanning the place where the wall should be. "Are you certain it is different?"

"It has similar properties, but this shield is more invasive." She shook her hand. "It's more than just a deterrent."

"I can speak to that," Daniel muttered. He let go of Teal'c as he felt his strength return.

"Okay, so we don't go this way," Mitchell said. He started back the way they'd come. "Let's try to go around it."

Sam and Teal'c nodded, starting to follow Mitchell as they doubled back. Daniel sighed, but obliged, bringing up the rear. Finding the girl and whatever community she belonged to would have to wait.

If only he had been able to talk to her. Maybe they would have been able to figure out just what exactly was going on. Daniel wasn't too optimistic that they'd find a way around at this point.

The shield was there for a reason. They all knew this. But Daniel didn't want to consider the reasons why just yet. He had to stay positive.

He sighed again and shivered. A new sensation of coldness and emptiness had settled into him. He just hoped they hadn't stumbled onto something that could be the death of them.

Unspoken Scene
"Hi," Janet said, entering the room and locking it behind her. "How are you feeling?"

Colonel O'Neill only replied with a string of muffled incoherent mumbles. Shivering, he remained curled in a tight ball, his head ducked under his arms. When she reached out to touch him, he tensed and cut himself off from her even further.

Janet knew she wasn't going to get anywhere with him. Instead, she turned to one of the nurses nearby. "How is he?" she asked.

Patti shrugged, waving her hand vaguely in O'Neill's direction. "He's clammed up. We made out a few words, but that's as far as I've gotten. Even Laurie can't get him to talk."

Janet nodded, her gaze falling back to the colonel. She'd seen this happen before, to men just as strong and committed as Colonel O'Neill. People break. Sometimes the weight of the job just becomes too much. Sometimes people can't bounce back from tragedy. And now, with the Stargate factor, Janet wasn't sure what could come into the base, how people could be affected, or even how to adequately prepare for it.

"We're still waiting on his blood tests," Janet told the nurse. "Once those come back, maybe some options will open up for us. Until then, we'll have to prepare for a worst case scenario."

Patti nodded. "I've already been in touch with Doctors MacKenzie and Warner for you, Doctor Fraiser."

Janet forced a smile. "Thank you." Taking one last look at Colonel O'Neill, she sighed as she headed towards the door. "By the way," she asked, pausing before she went to check on her other patients, "what were you able to hear him say?"

"He kept saying, 'it's wrong; make it better,' over and over again."

Paranoia Scene
She was trapped.

Sam backed against the wall, her sidearm aimed at the now empty corridor in front of her. She knew they were closing in on her. She knew the end was near.

But she wouldn't give up. It was her duty to protect this base. She wouldn't let the enemy claim the SGC.

"You won't get away with this!" Sam yelled, keeping her aim steady. "This base is filled with people who will stop you."

"Carter! It's me!"

Sam felt her strength waiver and her steel grip on her gun dipped. "Sir?"

She caught a flash of green. A wave of relief washed over her as she caught sight of O'Neill peering around the corner. Some of the tension evaporated from her shoulders at the sight of him, but there was a persistent nagging at the edge of her brain. She kept her gun locked.

"Come on out, Carter," O'Neill called. "Let's sit down and talk."

Sam snorted, tightening her hold on her weapon. General O'Neill should know she was smart enough to figure out what he was trying to do.

"The SGC has been compromised, sir. It's imperative we take back control."

She saw another flicker as he adjusted his position. "That's what I'm trying to do."

"You don't understand!" None of them understood. God, how blind could they be? "All this time, we were wrong. He's been playing us the entire time." She shook her head. "It has to end now."

"So, let's end it. Put down your weapon and we'll tackle this together."

She swallowed hard. "I have it under control."

"Carter, you're pointing a gun at me."

Sam hesitated, wavering as she glared at the corridor. O'Neill wouldn't just give into them. He wouldn't give into him. He must have a plan. He needed her to make it work. Maybe they could take back the SGC together.

"Just put down the gun," O'Neill said. "We'll make it right."

She gave a slight nod and started to lower her gun. To her relief, O'Neill did the same as he brought himself completely into her line of sight.

"Let's go," he said softly.

She nodded, taking a step forward. But that's when she saw him.

Her gaze darted past O'Neill's shoulder.

Daniel.

He stood there, a sinister smile tugging at his lips. In his eyes, she saw the deception. The lies. The smug satisfaction of victory.

There would be no victory.

Sam aimed her sidearm at them both. O'Neill lifted his in turn.

"You're with him," Sam said, her voice catching in her throat. "He's gotten to you."

"Carter, Daniel hasn't done anything."

She laughed. "He's tricked us all. That's not him, sir. That's not him. He never came back."

"Carter!" His voice was dark and hard. "Get a hold of yourself!"

"I won't let it happen!" Gritting her teeth, Sam released the trigger.

The shot echoed through the corridor.

I have other teamfics, mostly S7, that are also gen, but I can't post everything here.

Celebrate the Gen!
