Apparently, cutaways aren't used after 6 pm. Is this true? We're deciding on tuxes tonight. any advice?

Go with tuxes. The rules for cutaways have gotten very confusing and inconsistent.

My two cents,

How does it sound if the groom wears a cutaway, and the others just plain tuxes? Groom has his heart set on a cutaway, and would prefer everyone in a cutaway. But I'd like to do something that looks good, yet still honor's the groom's desire to be in a cutaway.

Hmm, we're now thinking of just longer coats, instead of cutaways. I like that idea better.

FWIW, tradition is that groom and groomsmen (and, I think, ushers) all dress the same. In current form, I guess that would translate as all male members of the wedding party - whether bridesmen or groomsmen - would dress the same.

My gut says the more tasteful thing is tuxes but I can't put my finger on why.
[after some internet research] Duh. "Cutaway" is another name for a morning coat, which really, really is to be worn in the morning or midday only - even in this debouched day and age. What time is your wedding?
