Because I can't help thinking about the day we macerated the tiger. The entire prep room smelled so wonderful, almost like a chickeny soup was being made. When we pulled the bones out to get the rest of the meat off, we were all crouching around it on the floor and pulling at it, debating whether or not to taste it ( Read more... )

I worked in a natural history museum doing research and prep work for several years. The animals came from zoos. Well, the big rare stuff did. We once skinned a baboon that had died, and forgot that were were to preserve a chunk of skin and send it back to the zoo to be used in the children's zoo exhibit of different furs (they had a trunk, basically, of different pelts for the kids to feel).

So we stuffed them a very nice cotton topped tamarin and managed to make the cheeks look nice and puffy like they do in real life. We also had the prep guy who does the exhibits stick it on a piece of wood so it looked real, instead of just having a stuffed primate lying around.

bladder, dear. It was like ice cream. I wonder if they were tempted to lick it as they pulled the crud out?
