It's 32F outside here in Austin. The bus was fifteen minutes late getting to my stop. The weather is cold, nasty, overcast, and wet... but at least it feels like winter.
Yes, yes I'm going to laugh at you. *points and laughs*
Interesting to note - even though yesterday morning we woke up to a foot of snow and no signs of it stopping, the school district had used up its snow days earlier in the year and I guess the superintendent didn't want to risk losing funding or something because school wasn't cancelled, despite some seriously uncool road conditions.
This morning? Someone's slashed the tires on all the school buses. I'm guessing we weren't the only ones going "WTF?" yesterday...
So what's the typical number of snowdays that an Alaskan child will get in an average year? I think we were lucky to get one or two a year growing up in Indiana.
On average? It depends, mostly on the year and the area. Here it doesn't usually snow that drastically, so they usually budget for two if necessary. (Both of which we used during the first snowfall this year - yay for two-plus feet in two days.) But the last three years I've been here I think they maybe had two total.
When I was in school in Anchorage it was the same deal, but we got a little more snow up there, so if they needed to they'd call off school again and just add days on to the end of the year. (I'm really not certain why they couldn't do that here...but then, the superintendent of the local school district has a reputation of being more of a bureaucrat than an educator, hence my guess about funding and such.) On average I'd say there was usually one a year.
WOW! 32? We are having a warm streak here (it's nearly 60 outside right now).
Don't worry...all this will change by next week, when our lows dip into the low 20s and highs in the 30s with rain / sleet :o) Maybe that will bring back your warmish weather.
