10 year reunion

I'm really tempted to skip my 10-year HS reunion. I've been on the fence about going for so long that airfare has started to get expensive; $800 for Elise and I. I've only really stayed in touch with one person from my class; all of my friends from HS graduated a year ahead of me. Still, there's that nagging feeling that I'll somehow regret not ( Read more... )

For me, there is no temptation at all but of course... it is ChattaNoWhere.

I think it depends entirely on how important high school was to you. Reunions have always struck me as strongly intertwined with the "High school is the best years of your life" meme, which I've always thought passé (not to mention depressing, if true). But some people really loved high school (or at least have remained fixated on it), so reunions are OMG important to them. Frankly, it sounds like you're not in that category, so I'd definitely recommend going somewhere fun instead. Maybe Cancun? I hear they've got some pretty screaming deals down there right now...

Yep, I agree with roseneko. For me, attending the reunion for one of the three high schools I attended was important... but it was a boarding school where we were very tight-knit, and even without reunions I have continued to be close to a sizable percentage of my class.

It was also just an in-state drive, so I wasn't spending $800 to attend. I didn't attend the 5-year reunion because I was in Pittsburgh at that point, and couldn't justify that kind of money either.

I went to my 5 yr, wish I hadnt. It was too soon.
I skipped my 10 yr, wish I hadnt. The next one is too far away at 20 yrs.

I'd advise going. There's lots to do and it's easy to turn almost any place into a vacation if you're willing to drive around a bit.

take the 800 and go somewhere better (invite the people you liked in high school to join you!). High school reunions are for chumps.

I'm on the fence about my upcoming reunion too. On one hand, it's a trip to LA. I haven't been back to LA in about 10 years. On the other hand, it's a trip to LA. I haven't been back to LA in about 10 years.

If anything, there's a story involved somewhere. It'll probably suck, though.
