That's a REALLY good theory.
And, I always want to type Doge as Dodge. Which, makes me think Dodger, which makes me thing Artful, The. ...I was going somewhere with that, but not really.

Maybe Dodge as in dodging responsibility or dodging the truth?

I wonder, with Rowling's clever use of names, if there isn't an Elphias or a Doge somewhere in mythology.

Elphias was a Greek architect known for building a city on a swampland that no one thought could support a city. It took him 3 tries, but he finally succeeded.

Doge is the word for an Italian leader (i.e., doge of Venice).

When he was introduced, I figured that meant he would become Minister of Magic because of the meaning of his name. You know, the leader who brought order to chaos and all that. *sigh*
