Do you know that for a fact or are you presuming they didn't? It seems really unfair to me to offer you the position and then withdraw it for what's undoubtedly a questionable reason without giving you a chance to defend yourself. Being late for an interview is often said to be an absolute no-no, but that's not true in my experience. I was late for the interview to the last job I took, and I was offered the job the next day. As long as you're apologetic, have a valid reason for being late (as you did) and can do the job itself then I don't think it represents a show-stopping problem...
Let me get this straight in my head a sec. The guy who interviewed you gave you good credit to elan but also told them that you were untrustworthy? Is this judgement purely based on you being late (for which you had very good reason - as also indicated by the lateness of other staff members that day)? I don't understand.
If they're going to fuck you about like that at this point then you don't want to work there anyway....that might just be my jaded and cynical alterego speaking, but at the minute i think it's the truth......but then what do i know, I'm as unemployed as you are.
