I got my results for the animal control officer test back. I got a 89% and my rank is 85th. So, I think I've got a slim shot at getting that job. But, well see. They also emailed me this huge personal information packet that I filled out. What I hated (and will always hate) about job hunting is the flippant suggestion to just get a job at McDonalds. McDonalds wouldn't hire me. I'm too educated and I have no fast food job experience. This idea that people have that McDonalds will hire anyone at the drop of a hat is just so arrogant of people, it drives me crazy.

So yeah, I feel your pain. People just don't understand how hard it is to find a job right now unless they've been through it, and their well-meaning suggestions do nothing but frustrate you, because they're made from a place of ignorance.

I know what you mean. One of my friends onetime said that it would be easy to find a job as a cashier at a grocery store, or something along those lines. Not with my qualifications it would be. Why would they hire someone with 4 years of post graduate education when there are probably 10 people less qualified in line? I think with your education, you could probably get hired as a manager or something like that, but not a cashier or cook.
Also, my aunt tried to tell me that one of my cousin's went through something similar. He's a professor and now teaches at George Washington University in DC, but before he taught at University of New Mexico and wasn't happy. My point was (a) had was getting paid a regular salary and (b) he was at least working in his desired field. I have neither. My aunt kept saying "Yes, but you're not going to find your ideal job right away." I'm not looking for ideal here. I'm looking for regular, paid work. Minimum wage is fine.

Yeah, cashier at a grocery store is another one of those jobs that everyone thinks you can get at the drop of a hat, but I applied for tons of those and didn't get a single call back. Maybe things were like that twenty years ago, but times change, and people need to realize it ( ... )
