Hawaii!

Pictures. There's quite a bit of them so if you have dial-up, this might take a little bit.

On the first day I woke up to a nice sunrise.

We spent the day at a beach called Poipu. It was nice.

There was a monk seal taking a nap on the beach. Monk seals are Hawaii's only native seal and they are very endangered. It's illegal to touch them or harass them in any way. If one comes up on the beach they put ropes around it as it sleeps.

Next day we drove out to some waterfalls. Here are some pretty flowers that we saw along the way.

The thing about Kauai is that it is full of wild chickens. Nobody really knows where the came from, but they are everywhere on the island. I bought birdseed and had fun feeding them. They were happy chickens.

We visited a botanical garden. This a taro field. They make poi out of taro. It's sort of like a porridge-y, gruel type of dish that the Hawaiians eat a lot.

Wednesday we took a boat trip out to the NaPali coast. It's an area of the island you can only get to by boat. No roads go out there because it's all canyons and cliffs and stuff. Unfortunately, the waves were crazy big that day, so we didn't go out so far. We also got quite seasick coming back.

How does that old sailor saying go? "If a rainbow is unfurling, you're soon to be hurling" Something like that. This is the harbor where our boat left from.

We did however see humpback whales and bottlenose dolphins on our boat trip. I didn't get many good pictures because they would come up so fast and then dive back down. But the dolphins came right up next to our boats and were jumping around in the waves. Show offs!

Here is some of the coast from the boat.

Next day we drove up to Waimea Canyon. It's also called The Grand Canyon of the Pacific.

There were wild goats at one point. I got excited about the goats, but they were shy and wandered into the forest.

Here is a rainbow that formed in one of the valleys of the canyon.

And I don't have any pictures from the last day.
Now I need to clean the house and get cat food.
