dancetomato is wonderful, but strange. For her birthday she asked me to write curling fic. As in the sport, curling. And set in the Buffyverse. Apparently my journal is wear fandoms collide in bizarre ways. My experience with curling consists of more viewings of Men with Brooms than I can count. Other than that? A few hours worth of Olympic curling and that's it. Please forgive any errors in my game below. :)

If you want to see how the game is really played, watch the Olympics. If you want to see the game played with humor watch the movie Men with Brooms with sexy stars Paul Gross and Molly Parker. Yum.
Not beta'd, any errors are mine.
It was the final end and the game was tied 14-14, but the Scoobies had the hammer and as long as they didn’t blow it, they’d be taking home the Golden Broom. The Fanged Four had won the last three years, but Xander was confident that this was the Scoobies’ year. They had Buffy now and man could that girl throw a rock.
They blew away the competition in the qualifying rounds. Then in the semifinals they faced Warren’s Geek Squad including this chick April, who was a little robot-like, but in a sexy way that made Xander think of Seven of Nine and how he wouldn’t mind being assimilated. He nearly blew a throw when April smiled at him right as he pushed off from the hack. But he remembered how much Cordelia used to throw his game and refocused. He and Willow threw the team’s last four rocks and won.
Those games had been nothing, however, compared to the Fanged Four. Their lead was this brooding guy named Angel who looked better suited to hockey, but had a surprisingly good throw. Then came Darla and Dru who were far better than anyone expected by looking at them. And finally their skip -- Spike. He was the one with the real eye for the game. And what great eyes they were. His ass wasn’t bad either, not that Xander’d noticed the guy’s tight buns when he slid down the ice. Because Xander was straight and even if he wasn’t he wouldn’t betray his teammates by macking on their opponent. Except that he kind of was.
So here they were tied, 14-14, in the final end. Angel threw his first lead rock with Dru and Darla sweeping; it ended up just left of the button. Xander was surprised, he’d expected Angel to start with a guard. He looked at Spike, but the guy’s face was blank. No way was Xander getting a read on their strategy from the skip. He looked up sheet at Jesse then positioned his broom to the inside of Angel’s rock and motioned for a hard weight hit, a take out. Jesse confirmed the shot and went for it. He slid with the rock and released, Buffy and Willow sliding alongside waiting for the signal to sweep.
Not enough weight. “Hurry hard, hurry haaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrd,” Xander yelled. The girls swept until he yelled “Woah, line.” The rock slid right into the first stone and bounced it out to the left edge. The Scoobies smiled and Xander gave Jesse a thumbs up.
“Nice take out,” Spike said with a grin. “But it’s only the first rock.” He and Xander switched places and Spike directed Angel’s second stone -- a guard, stopping few feet forward of the house, right on the center line. Spike stood and gestured to Xander, “Your move.” There was a glint in his eye that made Xander weak in the knees. Good thing he was supposed to kneel on the ice now.
Xander lined up a freeze and Jesse’s rock landed perfectly beside Angel’s. If Spike wanted to block shots to the house, Xander had no problem with that. He’d just knock his own rocks in later. Again they exchanged smiles and places; Darla stepped up as second and threw her first rock just outside the guards to land in the outer circle. Xander had Buffy match her on the right. Darla’s second shot was short of the hog line. Spike had signaled to sweep but Angel’d insisted it was fine -- the two argued and when the stone slowed and Angel realized they did need to sweep, it was too late. The stone was removed from play and Xander had Buffy throw a take-out at Darla’s first rock. She threw a little heavy and her own rock went out with Darla’s, but Buffy’s first rock was still in place.
Dru was the Fanged Four’s third and she scared the crap out of Xander. She kept looking at him like she wanted to eat him, and not in the sexy way. Spike looked up and waggled his eyebrows. “She’s a fun one, she is,” he nodded at Dru. “Do things you never dreamed of.” Xander shivered and looked away. Spike laughed.
Dru and Willow managed to knock the guards out of the way and then just replace them with new guards a little farther from the house. Buffy’s rock got knocked out too. So now it was down the last two rocks for each team, an empty house with two guards waiting for them. If no one scored, they’d go into extra ends until the tie was broken.
Xander was tired but determined. He was going to win this end and take home the Golden Broom.
Dru called the shot for Spike and he threw his stone, knocking Dru’s guard into the house to land right on the button. His own rock slid into place on the outer circle.
Shit. Xander and Willow signaled back and forth to each other, arguing over what shot to take. Willow wanted him to hit his guard and send it in to knock out Spike’s rocks. Xander wanted to go straight for the button. And they each still had one more rock after this one. Willow won.
Xander lined up Willow’s shot and slid down the sheet. He released the stone and Buffy and Jesse slid along beside it sweeping lightly to keep it going. It was a good throw. His rock slid into the guard and bounced left heading for Spike’s stone. The guard slid toward the button and shifted the Fanged Four’s stone off. Xander had the button and shared the outer circle with Spike’s other stone. As it stood the Scoobies had the lead, but each skip still had one stone left.
Xander had the hammer, but when he looked over at Spike he knew Spike would do whatever necessary to win the game. The Fanged Four were the reigning champs for a reason; they weren’t going to give up easily. Spike and Dru did their own little signal argument and finally Spike nodded. He lined up and threw heavy, Angel and Darla sweeping to Dru’s shouts of “Hurry hard, hurry haaaaarrrrrrrrrrd.”
In a spectacular shot, he managed to hit Xander’s rock on the outercircle and send it flying into the button, knocking them all away and leaving Spike’s rock on the outer circle the only one in the house. Spike stood up walked back to the hack. “Fancy another go, mate?” He was trying to force another end, psych Xander out, make him play defense against Spike’s one stone and end in a tie. Get the hammer in the next end and win. He eyed Xander from top to toe and back up again and said, “Could do this all night long.”
Xander felt himself blush. “Yeah, well, I’m ready for beer and a bed. Let’s get this done with.”
“Mmm. Bed does sound good.” And there was the appreciative look again. Was Spike hitting on him? Surely not. He’d barely looked at Xander during the game except when he’d looked at Xander. Shit. No. He was just trying to freak him out, throw his game.
Xander swallowed and quickly turned his attention to Willow. She, of course, was playing conservative, telling him to knock Spike’s stone out. Go for another end. He shook his head. He was going for it. The house was wide open. There was no reason not to throw a draw for the button. He lined up, pulled back, and pushed off the hack. He slid down the ice, hand on the rock guiding it perfectly. He let it go and watched it slide.
“Needs it,” Jesse called.
“Woah,” Xander said. He and Willow both shook their heads and Jesse and Buffy held back. The rock slid into the house perfectly, landing on the button. He jumped up, fists in the air. “Yes! Yes yes yes!!!!!”
Willow, Jesse, and Buffy ran to him and they huddled together. “We won!” Buffy shouted and picked Xander up. Man that girl was freakishly strong.
The Fanged Four walked over to shake hands. “Congratulations,” Spike said. “How about that beer and a bed now?”
“W-w-what?”
“Me. You. A drink, a shag?”
“Huh?”
“Maybe a kiss first, yeah?” Spike grabbed Xander by the hair and pulled their mouths together in a scorching kiss.
Xander’s eyes were glazed over when he pulled back, but he was clearly happy. “Forget the beer,” he muttered before leaning in to return Spike’s kiss. "Your house or mine?"
