I don't believe it is possible to raise kids totally away from television, however, it is simple enough to just not have television in the house where you raise them. That alone can make a world of a difference.

I don't think its a good idea to utterly seperate your children from the outside world, even from the bad things such as television and shopping malls. Once they become adults they will need to know how to deal with these things. Back home I know a lot of families who homeschooled their children, and tried to absolutely cut out all of these outside influences, and now their kids are backwards and awkward, not really knowing how to deal with others. While I think the influences you mentioned should be limited, they should not be eliminated because they will be there when your children grow up.

Bodies of water make me excited. Not excited, but I love them. Sitting next to a stream and looking at stars is wonderful.

i feel the water too! i get kind of bored just looking at stars, after a while, but bodies of water close by absolutely bear some comfort. when i was in arizona, i was like . . cough, choke... where's the green? where's the streams??

I also used to fight so much with my mother at age 13. What a miserable year of changes.

Lately the things that have been getting me excited are pretty nerdy: museums and old books. That's all I can think about anymore! That, and daydreaming about sitting on the beach eating water ice.
