Oh yes I know this type of person all to well! Pontificating is the term that springs to mind. Mention any subject and these people like to try and establish themselves as the fount of all knowledge pertaining to that subject. They then either try undermine your experiences and views or when that doesn't work, they simply talk over you. I actually had a straight gender normative male colleague try and pontificate at me about gender identity and sexuality!?
You have my sympathies for having to deal with such boorish louts. *hugs*
Now, I feel strongly about my national identity, as does everyoneI don't think I do, but then my upbringing was hardly typical. The closest I come is how I feel about my lack of national identity. The country I was born in doesn't exist any more and I didn't live there long enough to have built up an identity from it. I travelled a lot around the UK as a child, so I feel like a perpetual interloper. :-D

"...Last night in a sauna this guy heard I was from scotland and launched straight into, 'Don't you HATE the english, how dare they, they have robbed you of all your culture, we are with you! lets kill them all, the evil oppressors..' I said that........"
May be there are some nuance of spoken english and jokes, which is not so easy to translate... what you told is very important but unfortunatelly not everybody can understand it, becouse not evebody can speak english... but as to what i told about a sauna and a serious subject, the result from dispute in the saune, where people clean their bodys and enjoy it, it was a joke...
I think this guy doesn't understand the subject properly. He doesn't realize how Russians were moving to the East and absording small nations and languages. He should turn to our history and could see a lot of questions to think over...
