It's possible somebody took it from me and sold it while I wasn't paying attention. I won't rule that out.

Ah man, I'm not really looking to self-publish(it's an insane amount of work and most people actually LOSE tons and tons of money by doing it).

That said, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the thought. We need to hang out next time you're in the Bay, I don't think we've ever actually met face to face.

Yeah, the thing about this is that it just gives you money you need to self-publish. If you find a completed or semi-completed work completely impossible to get published by a major press, it might be worth it to throw what you have at this organization to see if they like it sufficiently to support you. I don't know how hard it is to break into the business, but I would assume that after seeing that a significant number of people buy your work after it's self-published (in the books business, 1k is a great number for self-publishing), dark horse or some large comic book company might be more interested. It would be eliminating some of their risk--if they already know that you can sell comics, then they just need to make sure that you keep doing things that people will buy, and don't have to worry about your talent.

That's actually a series of really good points. I'll keep this in mind if the need hits me.

=)
