[following the wedding]

They're drunk. Not that Lennox is surprised by the state they're both in, because it's a wedding and there's booze and they're both the type to drink more alcohol than they need. It's actually sort of nice, having someone here who will get drunk with him and not worry about any of the serious stuff. He has Eddie, of course, who will always get ( Read more... )

There'd been a brief period where Miguel was just drunk enough to start talking to people, which quickly became too drunk to make a decent impression on any of the people he was supposed to be talking to, then Jim's hand is at his back and his breath is hot and damp against Miguel's ear, and he really can't imagine staying.

And maybe he's just that out of it, or maybe they just sat through three dudes getting married and he doesn't think anyone will actually give a shit, but it seems okay to take Jim's hand. Make up for before, when he couldn't bring himself to touch him just to see if he was okay.

"You'll have to introduce me next time," he says, but immediately wishes he hadn't. He can get over the gay thing, and he can get over the part where they're Jim's friends, where they have to know what's going on, but the part he can't is practically written onto his bones: he's not a guy worth introducing to your friends. If he were, he'd have said hello already.

"Okay," Lennox answers, but it's more reflex than anything. He doesn't think Miguel wants to meet any of his friends, which bugs him a lot more than he wants to let on, because he thinks his friends are pretty great and he doesn't introduce just anyone to them. Well, he does, but not just anyone who he's also sleeping with. That's different.

"They're probably too drunk to even notice we're leaving anyway," he adds with a laugh and he likes that Miguel has taken his hand. He doesn't know where he's being led and for the moment, that's okay, too. "Hell, I'm too drunk to notice we're leaving, I think."

He's just talking now, filling empty space with useless words just so he won't hear Miguel say maybe he doesn't want to meet his friends, after all.

Miguel laughs, "It was your idea," not that he wouldn't have gotten there eventually. The hamlet is close: he feels bad for leaving Angelo at home, now, with no one else there, but that's a long walk for someone who's had as much as he has. The rabbit hardly cares one way or the other, but Angelo's like...like a puppy, maybe, always needing attention.

It's what Miguel likes about him, he thinks. When he wants the cat, it's happy to be held or played with, never gives him a cold shoulder. Or whatever you'd call it in a cat.

He doesn't need a cat to pay attention to him now, though. "Someday, when we are all sober," he concedes, "introduce me to them."

"Okay," Lennox says again, but he means it more this time. Those few moments and maybe the fact that Miguel has said it a second time make it easier to believe and he'll talk himself into it if he has to. He doesn't want to ruin the night now, not when it's been pretty good so far.

"Hey, let's go to your place," he decides and he isn't even sure why. It's just hit him that they've never been there, that he isn't even sure where Miguel lives and the dogs are with Eddie and Lily anyway, so he doesn't have to worry about them. "I don't even know where the fuck I am."

He's not that turned around, he knows his place is close, but he suddenly wants to see Miguel's place. It's stupid and he thinks maybe he should just shut up and take Miguel to his place. That's what they normally do, that's probably the safest, easiest thing to do.
