They call the device "communicator". You can talk to people in it that are actually somewhere else, but it isn't magic.

Like the book? Wouldn't've guessed it from the scenery; ain't enough talkin' animals. Never would've guessed it period. I figured there was somethin' more ta dyin' than gettin' trapped in a book.
