Did Cable Start Off as a Comedian Clone?

Look at the famous cover of New Mutants #87. Black-and-white hair that’s thinner at the corners and thicker in the middle and sides; big shoulder pads; scar; big scar over one eye; big gun; hairy body; sarcastic expression.

Well, Nathan Summers first appeared in 1986, the same year Watchmen made its debut, but the adult version (as 'Cable') waited until 1990. Arguable.

Let's not forget Moore and Gibbons were revamping Charlton characters for their series, and the Comedian was based in part upon the Peacemaker. If your theory's correct, Felicity, that would make Cable a second-generation Xerox.

Good point! And it isn’t necessary for Liefeld to have read the Charlton comic in question when designing Cable.

Dunno about Comedian, I was too distracted by "Watch out, Muties!"

Wow, we really did call them that back then, didn't we?

I wonder what mute people thought of that.
