Microblogging and motivation

I've always been a bit behind the curve, and I'm okay with that. I was still writing in a paper journal when people started blogging. First there were the websites where people edited the website to post a new article. Then software made it easier and we have the blogs of today where you WYSIWYG type into a box and click a button. I'm in similar straits re: lots of changes, little time to write about it. I have pretty much abandoned my twitter/facebook accounts. My reasoning is that anyone who is REALLY a friend of mine will either email me or call me to get actual updates on my actual life. I am sick and tired of internet acquaintances ( ... )

Also - one very cool thing I just read. One of the Catholic desert fathers (a monk) said something 1300 years ago that rings true to me today:

"Sin is the refusal to grow."

That's a definition of "sin" that I can get behind.

I'm a big fan of the book "The Road Less Traveled" by M. Scott Peck, and his definition is very similar if you think about it. He says that sin is "laziness", in the sense of choosing to do the easier thing. When we do the things that are harder, we grow.

It's hard to love people the way we know they should be loved... but the harder we work at things, the better we get at it.
