“I owe you.” Alex said softly, sitting uneasily on the couch. The younger man looked across at him through hooded eyes, leaning back. “You’ve saved my life, and you’ve saved my daughter’s life.”

“You would have done the same.” Teddy murmured languidly. “Well... you might have left me to drown. But you’d have saved even Sebastian.”

The violinist winced at the light jab. “I don’t mean-”

“Ali does the same.” The younger man shrugged. “And Tom used to do the same to Oscar. None of you mean to do it, it’s not intentional, you can’t help it.” There was silence. “Sebastian notices though. Depending on how you guys have been during the week, he clings and begs that I don’t take him back.”

“Teddy-”

“Nothing has changed, Alex.” Teddy said brusquely. “I’m still the dick that married your best friend and cheated on him. You’re still the prick who tried to burn my cello and ignores one of my sons because he looks like me. The fact I took a truck for Mordie changes nothing.” He tapped his fingers on the arm rest calmly. “Now, if that’s all-”

“It does change things.” Alex muttered. “You have no idea how much it does.”

“Well, whatever.” The cellist dismissed him out of hand. “I’ve got better things to do with my time.” He paused at the door. “By the way, Alex. Watch out, because I’m not taking a bullet or running into a burning building for your pigs.” Despite Teddy’s words, Alex couldn’t make himself smile as he watched his best friend’s ex-husband wheel himself out of his father’s living room.
