I think the difference between BSG and AH is that Arkham Horror never really gets better. It's always kind of impenetrable. I think it's possible to get in the groove with BSG once you've played it once or twice where it doesn't feel so onerously complex.
Sure, BSG has a core mechanic of the cards, too-- it just has too many fiddly bits. I like raider minis as much as the next guy but so superfluous to the real game.
