Somewhere beyond happiness and sadness I need to calculate What creates my own madness And I'm addicted to your punishment And you're the master And I am waiting for disaster
I feel irrational So confrontational To tell the truth I am Getting away with murder It isn't possible To never tell the truth But the reality is I'm getting away with murder
This is the first stage in Cara's evolution for our fanmix. This is when she is a full Mord'Sith but before she met Richard.
There are some obvious lines that work. Like "I'm addicted to your punishment" which helps describe the relationship Mord'Sith have with pain. And, also obviously, "getting away with murder" was likely common serving as a Mord'Sith under Lord Rahl.

I've just returned from a war that was lost And the only foe I had was me No retreat from the forces I fought Believing I could only win And from grace to the ground I fall I am human again
I saw myself untouched by hate But I was much too numb to feel
This is the next stage in Cara's evolution, where she meets Richard and sees what happens in the future. This disillusions her somewhat, causing her "fall from grace" to become "human", to question what she was/had been told/her orders. It was the start of the crack in her Mord'Sith persona.

Heaven bend to take my hand And lead me through the fire Be the long awaited answer To a long and painful fight
...
Heaven bend to take my hand Nowhere left to turn I'm lost to those I thought were friends To everyone I know Oh they turn their heads embarassed Pretend that they don't see But it's one misstep One slip before you know it And there doesn't seem a way to be redeemed
Though I've tried, I've fallen I have sunk so low I messed up Better I should know So don't come round here And tell me I told you so
This is for Cara in Marked. It is both for when her Mord'Sith sisters turn on her ("I'm lost to those I thought were friends / To everyone I know") and for when she meets Richard but still has her attitude ("So don't come round here And tell me I told you so").

I hate them all. I hate them all. I hate myself for hating them, so I'll drink some more. I love them all. I'll drink even more. I'll hate them even more than I did before.
On the other side, on the other side nobody's waiting for me. On the other side.
This is for Cara at the start of Broken. She has just been cast out by Richard and Kahlan after she'd started to connect with them a bit. This leads to her going to the bar. And acting out with the drinking and the sex and the fighting.
This is for Cara at the end of Broken, starting when she has heard the truth about her father and is facing death by confession. Her defenses have shattered, as evidenced by her tear and her giving up. She is very open at that moment. But then, she finds strength and helps them fight. She also is willing to face her sister again afterward.

So open and exposed
I found strength in the struggle
Face to face with my trouble
