Summary of Chapters 1-3 for those who have read the book already and need a refresher.

Chapter 1: Richard is up in the upper Ven Forest looking for the vine that his father had left him. It's been three weeks to the day that George had died and Richard went to the upper Ven to be with his emo self. Then Richard got stung by the vine. (can you say stupid?) While he was tending to his wound, something big and red flew over the canopy of the forest.

That day, Michael was accepting the position of First Councilor (putting him in charge of all of Westland.) (While Richard was pontificating about the food that would be at the celebration later that day) he noticed someone on Hawkers Trail across the lake. It was a woman! In a DRESS! And oh no! There were four hooded, stealthy men following her!

Chapter 2: Once again pontificating, this time on how to warn the woman, Richard made a run for it, hoping to get in front of her to get her to go on the trail fork toward Hartland. Oh look, we have a description of Kahlan

His eyes fell on the young woman as she came around the bend in front of him. His breath caught for an instant. Her brown hair was full, lush, and long, complementing the contours of her body. She was tall, almost as tall as he, and about the same age. The dress she wore was like none he had ever seen: almost white, cut square at the neck, interrupted only by a small, tan leather waist pouch. The weave of the fabric was fine and smooth, almost glistening, and bore none of the lace or frills he was used to seeing, no prints or colors to distract from the way it caressed her form. The dress was
elegant in its simplicity. She halted, and long graceful folds regally trailing her gathered about her legs.

Richard took her up the turnoff and covered their tracks so the evil men in hoods could not follow them.

((wow, this pdf repeats entire paragraphs....))

After traveling a bit, Richard takes note of a cloud that looks like a snake, and notes how unusual it is As they were crossing a cliff face, they were suddenly surrounded by the men.  OH NOES! The men told Richard that they had only interest in the girl. Richard assured her that he wouldn't leave her and she told him to keep them separate and not all coming at her at once.

They started charging and then, just before the man reached him, there was a hard impact to the air, like a clap of thunder with no sound.  The violence of it made every joint in his body cry out in sharp pain. Dust lifted around them, spreading outward in a ring. When the man in front of Richard was distracted by the woman, Richard kicked him off the cliff.  As the leader was going to go for the woman, Richard got in his way, right before the leader's blade was going for Richard, the last man shoved his sword through the leader's gut

Sitting on the cliff, taking the moment to recover, we find out her name is Kahlan and that she's shocked Richard called her a friend He asked about the men and she said it was a quad that must have followed her across the boundary from the Midlands. He thought she was lying because no one could cross the boundary.

Chapter 3: They made their way to Michael's house and Kahlan asked him about Westland and if he had a fireplace in his home. We meet Chase!!! (Yay!!) and Richard introduces him to Kahlan. Michael called the boundary wardens to be his personal guard cause he feared a plot against the government. Richard tells Chase about the quad and how they're at the bottom of the bluff.

Michael comes out.  Has his speech. He goes on about this war and concerned citizens... He talks about joining all three lands again Westland, The Midlands, and D'hara, once the boundaries fall. Then he starts to go on about fire and how it causes the death of loved ones, yadda yadda, Richard and Michael's mother died in a fire that was caused by a knocked over lamp by a man who thought Richard's father had cheated him. Michael comes on to Kahlan, Kahlan's all back off yadda yadda.

end of the chapter.

yeah, I didn't intend the summary to be that long and in depth. I'm sure to be more lazy next week.
