I am currently considering upgrading from my current phone to a Sidekick II. Its a cool toy and I like it. However, I'm not sure its worth the money for me to get it. I'm currently doing fine well with my flip phone and Palm Zire. Well, my phone misses a lot of calls, but otherwise I'm doing fine. All you people out there in Sidekick land, is ( Read more... )

Pros:
It is totally awesome. Once you've had it for a week, you'll never be able to do without it ever again.

Cons:
It is a mediocre phone and a mediocre PDA. It's awesome because of the things it does that neither phones nor PDAs do, like email and Google. The address book, calendar, to-do list, etc., are all perfectly serviceable, as is the phone use; but there are no decent games, really. It's also awesome because you only have to carry one device to have a phone, PDA, and internet access.

Bottom line: I love mine. Couldn't live without it. It's been a little surprising, even to me, how many little ways it's changed life to have frequent net access. But you need to evaluate what you use your existing devices for and decide whether it will actually replace them, and if not, whether it's worth it anyway.

So ayla_geffen and I are meeting her mom at Mother's for some food one friday after work. I'm standing outside when I remember I forgot to get ticket's to the Firefly Butt-Numb-athon. I'm frantic... then I pull out my sidekick and buy tickets. The meal was great and I was not sad ( ... )

Everything cmat said, plus she only has a Sidekick I. The II is thinner, smaller, has a better holster, has a built-in camera, can send txt messages longer than 160 characters, and gets better reception.

Oh, yes. How does anyone survive without instant access to Google and Amazon? And it's great for winning friends and influencing people; I've been known to distract entire tables full of businessmen by bringing up the current state of football games, for instance, and to get into conversation with about five rows of people stuck on a runway with me as I track baseball gameday.

There are persistent rumors of a Sidekick III in October or so, though, so you might want to consider waiting just a little longer.
