“What's this?”
She laughs, watching him lift it slowly with a knife as though something lived under it. “A pancake, silly!”
He lowers it, slowly, to the plate. “Are you sure?”
“Yes!” Another is flipped to the plate by the frying pan. A frown catches her attention. “Is something wrong?”
“No,” he reluctantly admits.
A pause. She raises an eyebrow. He takes a breath.
“Do you have any fish fingers?”
She places the plate on the table. “And custard, yeah?”
“If you have any.”
She shakes her head, hiding her smile as she fetches the fish fingers.
