In-Character Information
Name (and age/-relevance if applicable): Rock Light (Megaman)/Physically 10 years old
Series: Megaman
Occupation or status upon arrival: Hero Fighting for Everlasting Peace! Though currently he’s just a tourist
Personality: Megaman is all around your typical hero. Cheerful and optimistic with a strong sense of justice. He’s fiercely determined to do what’s right and to protect and help anyone who needs it, whether he knows them or not. He’s always put a lot of value on the lives of humans and other living creatures, but over time has come to value his fellow robot as well, though that certainly won’t stop him from scrapping any Wilybot who gets in his way. At the very least it means he’s more likely to at least try to find another way to solve the conflict than fighting first. When that inevitably doesn’t work, he’ll give it his all.
He’s boundlessly curious and enjoys tinkering with things, which is mainly left over from his former occupation as Dr. Light’s lab assistant. He tries to see the good in everyone, and can be a bit naive and trusting, even after Bass’s trick in the seventh game. This however, doesn’t make his stupid as he’s pretty good at figuring out technology and thinking up strategies in the middle of a fight, taking full advantage of his weapon copy abilities and the other tools Light and Auto give him.
Backstory: Megaman started out as Rock, Dr. Light’s lab assistant, who he created along with his sister Roll, a house keeping robot. At the time, Dr. Light was working along side his partner and fellow scientist Dr. Wily to create six robots for specialized tasks such as construction, demolition and labor in environments too dangerous for humans. They could also be pretty devastating as combat robots, but of course Dr. Light would never use robots for such purposes. Wily on the other hand...
One day Dr. Light woke up to discover that not only had the Robot Masters disappeared, but so had Dr. Wily. It wasn’t too long after that when the Robot Masters began destroying cities and raining chaos everywhere. Realizing that Wily was responsible, Dr. Light knew their only chance at beating the Robot Masters was another robot, but it would take too long to build a fighting robot. That’s when Rock suggested modifying one of the robots he still had into a fighting robot. Dr. Light took that suggestion and chose to modify Rock. With his new function, the doctor gave his creation a new name, and that’s how Megaman was born.
Among the modifications he made to create Megaman was transforming Rock’s previous ability to copy the functions of tools into the ability to copy the weapons of Robot Masters he defeated in battle, adding to his arsenal and making his battles with later opponents easier. This became his signature ability and Megaman used it to the fullest as he went forth to battle the six Robot Masters, eventually making it to Wily’s stronghold and defeating him.
Wily managed to get away in the end however, and several months later, he built eight more robot masters and tried again to concur the world. Megaman defeated him then too. This time, Wily gave himself up willingly and told Megaman and Dr. Light that he’d seen the error of his ways and wanted to go back to being a good guy again. Since apparently being a brilliant scientist doesn’t allow for common sense, Dr. Light bought this immediately and gladly welcomed Wily back as his partner. They then set to work building a giant “peace keeping robot” named Gamma, as well as eight more Robot Masters.
Of course considering Wily’s track record, this could only end well right?
The first thing to go wrong of course, was the Robot Masters “mysteriously” going berserk. They ran off and split up, stealing the eight power crystals the scientist needed to power Gamma on the way out. So Dr. Light asked Megaman to go after them and get the power crystals back, which he did. Except that of course that’s when Wily stole Gamma and took it off to his new fortress that he had totally not built behind Dr. Light’s back because he totally did not lie about turning over a new leaf, nope. It didn’t matter in the end, since Megaman just destroyed Gamma and kicked Wily’s ass again.
During all of this, a new robot appeared and fought Megaman several times. This robot had similar abilities to Megaman’s, but wore a visored helmet and carried a shield. In the end when Wily’s fortress once again self destructed, as they often did, he saved Megaman’s life. Dr. Light eventually revealed that this was the first robot he and Wily created, Megaman’s prototype, Protoman. Protoman would go on to be the mysterious protector guy who would show up with a whistle to give him advice or test his strength and occasionally save his bacon again.
Wily meanwhile, would for a while continue the trend of trying to pin the blame for his latest take over attempt on someone else. First it was Dr. Cossack, then it was Protoman and finally he ran out of scapegoats and decided to pretend it was some made up guy named Mr. X. In the end though Megaman always managed to figure out it was Wily and ever time another fortress self destructed.
Then came the day when Megaman finally managed to put Wily behind bars. Six months later, his next line of Robot Masters activated themselves and attacked the prison, allowing their master to escape, but when Megaman came to try and put a stop to this, he ran into another mysterious robot. This one was named Bass, and he claimed to be fighting Wily too. Later on Megaman stumbled across Bass after he’d apparently had his ass handed to him and being the nice, trusting soul that he is, Megaman let Bass go back to Dr. Light’s lab to be repaired.
This was a mistake. When Megaman came back to the lab after beating the robot masters, he discovered that Bass had predictably turned out to be working for Wily. He’d destroyed the lab the moment Dr. Light was done repairing him and then stole the plans for Dr. Light’s upgrades for Megaman. Megaman chased him down to Wily’s fortress and then proceeded to kick his ass, then went on to beat Dr. Wily again.
By this point, Megaman was getting really sick of all this BS and knowing that Wily would just keep causing trouble if he still lived, he resolved to finish the Doctor off once and for all, but then Wily reminded him about the First Law of Robotics: Under no circumstance could a robot harm a human. Megaman hesitated, then tried to bluff his way out of it by claiming he was more than just a robot, but it did no good, as Bass came in and rescued Wily.
Megaman was a bit conflicted about his actions at that time, but he managed to eventually put that aside. When several more months passed with no sign of Wily, Dr. Light decided that they ought to take advantage of the peace and take a vacation, so the entire Light family, pets and all (but not Protoman since that hobo is never around), headed down to Diamond City.
What brings this person to Diamond City?: Wily’s been out of the picture for longer than usual so he’s taking advantage of it and going on vacation with Roll, Dr. Light and the rest of the family minus Protoman, who’s never around, but he probably followed them anyway or something, the hobo.
Misc. Notes:
Megaman has the ability to put his armor away so that he can walk around in casual clothes and in that form it’s not easy to tell at a glance that he’s a robot. He prefers to go by his original name of Rock in this form and usually prefers not to call attention to the fact he’s Megaman during his down times between world saving adventures.
Also during down times, Rock continues to act as Dr. Light’s lab assistant, even though Light created Auto specifically to take over this function so Rock could focus more on world saving, since Wily doesn’t usually take much down time between take over attempts. Old habits die hard.
Until they’re app’ed, Roll, Dr. Light, Auto, Eddie and the robot pets are NPCs, off doing their own things (And acting as support for Rock if we get a Wily before we get any of them). The Light family arrived together. Of those NPCs Rush will likely be the one seen most frequently since he’s Megaman’s dog and the most used of the robot pets.
This may or may not be necessary, but I’m going to establish that in my head canon robots in the Megaman universe like Megaman, Roll, Protoman, etc. were made as highly advanced AI who can make their own decisions to a limited degree, but can never go against the Three Laws of Robotics. They were also capable of expressing emotions to a point, but originally couldn’t actually feel them. Over time they’ve evolved the ability to not only fully make their own decisions, to the point where they could disobey their creators if they chose to, but they also evolved the ability to feel actual emotions. They still can’t go against the Three Laws, or at least not the First Law. Not even Bass, as much as he’d like to.
