Brief history of your character (100-200 word minimum): Marian was born on the 6th of August, 1171 to Edward, Sheriff of Nottingham and his wife Katherine, often shortened to Kate. She grew up with mostly only her father, her mother dying when Marian was a young age. She lived in the castle with her father whilst he was the Sheriff, but also spent time in the surrounding villages. This was one of the ways she met Robin, and despite their personalities being slightly different, they soon found themselves becoming good friends. This friendship gradually grew into love, and they were engaged when Marian turned 15. However, he soon left to fight for King Richard and her heart was broken.
As Prince John took to the throne, and the Sheriff took her father's job, she began to try and find ways to help those who were badly treated by becoming the Nightwatchman. As the Nightwatchman, a masked role many thought was occupied by a man, she delivered food and clothing to those in need. Basically, she was the Robin Hood role before he stepped into it only she tried to remain unnamed. When Robin returned, she kept up her identity, but was not easily won over by Robin. Slowly, Guy showed more and more interest in her and to protect her father, she had to choice but to accept his feelings and they were soon engaged. However, when it came to the wedding, she could not go through with it because of her love of Robin, and left Guy at the altar. This has left Guy angry with her, and she was placed under house arrest.
Gradually, she managed to win over some freedom, and was given the freedom she so desperately needed when her father was killed. Not the circumstances she wanted, but she was now with the man she loved in the forest. But soon she realised that she was better use to him in the castle and left the forest, but not before she became engaged to Robin. After some time, her identity as the Nightwatchman was discovered by Guy, but he kept her secret. When she tried to kill the Sheriff, however, this secret was revealed and she was taken to the Holy Land with Guy and the Sheriff on a plot to kill the King. Whilst there, Marian tried to persuade Guy to kill the Sheriff but the Sheriff heard this plan. She offered to marry him in return for the safety of the King but only because she had been told Robin was dead.
Brief synopsis of your character's personality (100 word minimum): Marian is a very generous person. She rarely holds back and often tries to give all that she can to help anyone, despite the consequences to herself. She is often feeding the poor by night despite them not knowing it is her and she prefers it that way. She tries her best to see the good in people. Although she knows there is not much good in some such as the Sheriff, she can see the good in others, such as Guy. When she can see this she does try to pull the good to the forefront no matter the consequences.
Marian is a very determined young woman and will usually fight to get what she wants. When it comes to her determination to look after her father she will not stop at anything including turning her charms on Guy. She is very loving, but does not give her love easily. Truly, her heart belongs to Robin, however she did find herself coming to care deeply for Guy. She cares for many people and will try to show it as often as she can. She can be very easily offended when people seem to underestimate her just because she is a woman and loves to prove them wrong. Many people still do not know it is a woman who is the Night Watchman which can occasionally anger her as it seems like many feel that a woman would be unable to do such a thing. Her belief in equality is strong and she believes that women have the right to stand up and speak in situations and not just men. Because of her caring nature she has been forced to harden over the years, especially since Prince John began to start his own reign whilst the King is away. She has seen many people suffer and although it upsets her, she tries to stay strong and focused.
Marian is as much of an adventurer as Robin, and often craves the danger a life like his and her secret identity gets to live. She can not be seen to, because of her place in society and her need to appear loyal to the Sheriff, but that does not stop her dreaming of a free life where she can be less stifled. She is a very independent woman, and acts like she does not need the protection or the help. However, deep down, she enjoys being looked after at times, as long as she is not made to feel inferior during those moments. She is also very strongly opinionated, although this trait has calmed slightly in recent months. If she views something as cruel or barbaric, she rarely keeps those thoughts contained, which often leads her into trouble.
People should not be fooled by her elegant and feminine looks. She is not one for doing task which seem the right things for women to do, like embroidery. She is far happier on the back of a horse, or fighting to help the poor. Of course, she knows how to use her feminine wiles as a weapon to get what she wants.
Marian’s compassion can be seen as a strength, as can her determination. If she is determined to go through with something, usually there is no stopping her. However, she has many weaknesses. For example, her desperate need to see the good in people often gives the wrong impression. When it comes to the situation with Guy, she can see what good there is in him and as she tries to bring that out, it makes Guy think she cares more than she does.
In terms of the Crusades, the situation is very close to her heart. The man she loved decided to leave to be with the King, despite their engagement, and since then she has felt rather bitter about the war in the Holy Land. Even though she did not like Robin leaving, she is completely loyal to the King, and will not be easily swayed by the Sheriff’s constant reminder that she should be loyal to Prince John. She stands on the same side as Robin, but can not show that she is in league with him. There is far too much at stake for her, so she plays a game with the Sheriff and Guy, making them believe that she would never have anything to do with Robin.
Stats
Age: 22
Appearance (please be sure to include any distinguishing traits that you want other characters to notice, .e.g. scars, eye color, particular jewelry): Marian has long, brown hair, usually held loose with her natural curls or pulled back from her face if needs be. She has rather piercing blue eyes which are usually the only give away to how she feels if she is trying to mask any emotions. She also has a scar on the right hand side of her stomach from being stabbed by Guy a year ago. More recently she has suffered from rope burn and bruising from chains to her wrists. Her wrist on her left arm is bruised slightly more than the right since that is where the shackle had been sitting.
Marian is a rather traditional girl when it comes to style, only with her own edge. When she is within the castle boundaries, she is usually in elegant dresses. However, when it comes to riding or her outings as the Night Watchman, she is usually in clothing more suited to such situations, such as loose trousers. She tends to stick with certain colours mainly red, orange, cream/white, green, black, brown or blue, all colours that she thinks compliments her looks. She is very simple in terms of make up, preferring to stay rather fresh faced or to look natural.

No matter how long she had spent in the Holy Land, and getting there, Marian still found the heat rather harsh. It made sleep almost impossible and her whole body felt uncomfortable and almost prickly. Then there was the firm chain around her wrist to keep her from running away which also made it hard for her to find a position she could sleep comfortably in. And then came the worry over what the coming days brought with the Sheriff being so focused on killing the King and there was nothing she could do at all to help save him.
Especially now with Robin dead.
She turned in the little cot and let her eyes fall on the small window where she had heard his voice earlier. It had purely been her imagination and she knew that and yet she so wanted to cling to the hope that it wasn’t. But if he was here, surely he would have come to get her by now especially since he was right there. She took in a deep breath which was slightly shaky and she closed her eyes against the tears beginning to form. However, after what had to be only five minutes her eyes were opening again as she found it difficult to sleep. But what she saw had her frowning.
This wasn’t the room she was in moments ago. It wasn’t as small or as bare and the bed was certainly far more comfortable. The thick desert air had gone also and then there was that weight behind her. Her heart raced and she kept telling herself that surely she was dreaming and when she turned her head she froze at who she saw. Her throat felt choked and tears fell down her cheeks once more as she turned away, burying her face against the pillows as she squeezed her eyes shut.
“Do not be silly, Marian, it’s just a dream. It can only be a dream.” After all Robin was dead and this place looked far too cosy to be the Holy Land therefor a dream was the only option. As much as she wanted to be with Robin even a dream ached too much knowing the reality.
