Does anyone seriously know of countries in which it is common for people to be platonically, physically affectionate in public? I suppose I mean mostly same-gender touching, but opposite gender is fine too, as long as it's platonic -- holding hands, touching overall, but nothing like making out or obviously romantic/sexual kisses ( Read more... )

I saw quite a lot of men holding hands in India (and my friend who lived out there for several years confirmed it was a friendship rather than a gay thing), and someone else I know who's travelled in the Middle East says it was quite common there too.

Yes, I have seen and reveled in that site. I've seen yours also! Thanks for all that info, I'm always glad to have it refreshed and hear others talk of it. I'm more interested in same-gender touching when it comes to this question of other countries.

I'm not sure about the present day, but twenty or thirty years ago in Russia men would kiss and hug upon meeting a close friend they hadn't seen for ages in a public place. Just watch any old Russian movie.
