news flash: parenthood is hard

May 12, 2009 11:21

We got back home yesterday after Lorne's birthday trip to London, and I suspect it's going to be quite some time before we leave for so long again. Kai did not take the absence well. I suppose we should have realized it was too soon to leave him overnight ( Read more... )

It is hard, but children are surprisingly resilient. I've observed that with some of the little ones we've taken in here. It does take some time, but they do eventually get there.

I know our situation isn't exactly the same, but if you ever want to talk about any of this, feel free to give us a shout. ^_^

I know you'll do well!

thank you. I suspect I will be turning to every available source for advice--we owe it to Kai, as far as I'm concerned.

I think he's a bit better today, though: having Lorne around all day helped.

I'm glad to hear he's doing better today. From the sounds of it, you and Major Lorne are doing right by him. You're spending a lot of time with him, and you're letting him get used to you. This all must be incredibly confusing and a bit frightening for him.

We've found that with a lot of the orphans, too. They wind up clinging to either Sanzo or me, and with a lot of patience and time, they eventually start opening up to the other children and to my assistant. It's quite something the first time we see them voluntarily play with the others.

**soft smile** He'll get there. You all will. And please, no matter what time it is, if you need something (and your mums aren't available - I know they have priority! ~_^ ) you've got my email and my phone. Just call. Really.

[ooc: Given what I know about two-year-olds, it occurred to me than Kai probably wouldn't take separation well just yet. So it's a bit angsty but he'll recover. He's still too young to really have a concept of time, even.]

[ooc: *nods* It's completely realistic, just rather heart-wrenching.]

Are you coming home soon? Kai's starting to make plaintive faces in the direction of the front door.
