I know what you mean. Whenever I feel a spark of inspiration, I refuse to look at 'great works of art' and sometimes even try to cloister myself off from really good music because I'm afraid it will kill my motivation and 'sap' my 'genius' away. Just when you thought you had a good idea, someone has to go and post something really awesome and the moment you look at it your idea turns to runny goo and you go back to procrastinating in the corner.
