My dad's job is continuing to pay him his regular wage, + $15/day for jury duty. Maybe your job will do this too?

Are teachers in the States unionized? Generally, up here, unions either have negotiated that you get full pay for your jury duty or pay you the difference themselves.

it depends on the State. Florida is not a teacher's union state.. I could belong to it, but they have no real power.

Beyond that, I work for a public-but-not school. It's not in a school district, but receives public funds.

Almost all full time salary positions pay your full salary while on jury duty but then you give them your 15$/day

The way the summons reads I only get the $15 IF my employer does not pay me during my absence.

Most places will pay you while you do your jury duty and not force you to take sick or vacation days. Unless you've been summoned for a grand jury and assuming it's state and not federal court, you'll probably only be there for a day or two. The chances of ending up on a multi-day trial are pretty slim. Still, I'm glad lawyers are exempt from jury duty in Virginia.

There's a coupple of big trials coming up that they are pulling for. With a staff of like 140, 4 people got summons for the same day...
