Just a note to any/all who used to read my journal - as you've no doubt figured out by now, I don't really post any more. I didn't like the reactions it was producing in me, and I never had much to say anyway.  I'm still quite active on LJ in the community

Hey Mary - it seems like I'm just the same! I always (ALWAYS) say I'll post more, but then I don't. Maybe I should make another post soon... Still, I check my Friends page almost every day, so if you do decide to make some friends-only posts, I hope you'll include me! (Though I don't suppose there'd be any way for me to know if you didn't. ;-))

On that note, how's the Harrisonburg job?

The job's pretty boring, truthfully. My real responsibilities only take up a couple of hours, so the rest of the time I'm free to play on facebook, send e-mails, read, sketch, and do basically whatever else I can think of that doesn't require me to leave my desk. Getting paid to slack is nice but not very fulfilling.

The real stuff of my existence takes place outside work; I'm working on a large commission for the campus ministry, and I'm visiting New York this weekend with a view toward moving their next year.
How is the year in DC going?

Too bad the job's not fulfilling - but I suppose it's doing it's job as "filler" all right, yeah?

Congrats on the campus ministry commission - that must be cool! What exactly are you working on? And when you move to NY, is that to study or work or live in a utopian artist commune? :)

DC is fantastic. I'm doing HIV education in the public schools (along with tutoring, community improvement, and leadership development), and I'm loving it and the people I'm doing it with. I love living in a "real house" with a kitchen (and potential trick-or-treaters!), and it's cool having my own room with only my stuff around. :-D

Right now I'm doing a series of 5 silk banners that will hang in the main lobby of our campus ministry house. They're supposed to stand for the major liturgical seasons (advent, christmas, epiphany, lent, holy week, easter, and pentecost), with some of the seasons sharing the same color. My campus pastor has kind of an aversion to anything "too theological", so I couldn't include any of the really neat symbols that you see in a lot of liturgical art. I made a swirly design that's okay - it does lend itself to many different interpretations, which can be rewarding if you know how to go about pulling meaning out of abstract art. The idea is that each banner has the same design, just in a different color ( ... )
