Poor Cameron. I would love to see his master care for just a moment. He must be to intimidated, or mabey Cameron is something someone else craves? He does all the right things, but still gets shit. I hope he wins out in the end... I would still love to see his master stop the whipping.
I just know the feeling, Having to act and be strong all the time. It must suck to be locked indoors day after day. You have done an amazing job in relating your characters to your readers. I think we all see a bit of ourselves in each one of them, the proud and vain Daniel, the sexy and robust Mia, sly and plain Lis, scared virgin apparent Cade, and intelligent, insightful Cameron =)You have done such an excellent job!
I think (and hope) that Hadley is deluding himself if he thinks he can remain detached from Cameron or any of these slaves--although he's a man of his world and therefore accepts the institution of slavery, he (thankfully) can't seem to bring himself to fully dehumanize them in his mind.
Meanwhile, this was an excellent Hadley/Cameron chapter--Cameron was adorably impudent but he was willing to work with Hadley for the sake of everyone getting through the upcoming ordeal, and to give more information. I think he's starting to genuinely trust Hadley. And I love the way Hadley accepted both the info and the impudence!
As to Hadley's last question--Hadley had to know it would cut Cameron. Apart from smarting over the rejection, I imagine Cameron's future would be frighteningly uncertain if sold. It's not like he's as young as Cade.
Cam is getting all the love, lol. I like your summary of Hadley, he is a man of his world thus his question posed to Cameron. Hadley is very used to routine and everything in its place and he hasn't been able to find his equilibrium with the Barkleys.
