Well I guess I am overdue for an update huh?
I am now out in Montana and just loving it out here. I started working at a Quarter Horse farm in early October. There are currently 19 horses (5 mares, 14 geldings) which should go up in the next couple months with the coming 2 year olds and others coming in for training. I know, a huge gasp was heard throughout the land since the Morgan/Saddlebred girl is working and riding QHs. I pretty much ride every day so this is a good thing for me since before I came out here I rode a total of twice this year. Plus we will have some babies next year which is another reason I am excited about this job. We are having at least 2 but since there are 4 broodies in the back pasture we may have 4...so I have been bad and haven't found out but I hardly see my boss.
The last two weeks I have been riding two horses a day, both of which are green (another huge thing for me after my Spy experience). Rocky is a black three year old that was bred by the farm then sold, trained by a lady that used to work for my boss, left in a field for the rest of the year and forgot everything he learned *sigh* I have a love-hate relationship with this horse as he likes to back instead of go forward (which he hasn't done the past two days) and likes to run me into the fence the first direction, aka counter-clockwise, but when he actually does what I ask within the first two times I ask he is a nice horse to ride. We've been working on getting him to realize there is another trot other than his nice western pleasure jog, well and trotting right away when we ask. He is leaving this month to go home for which I have mixed feelings. Early in the week I can't wait to see the back of the departing trailer, but like the last two days when everything pretty much clicks with out so many battles I may miss him.
I also ride a cute bay gelding named Sky or Big Sky Blanton that is my boss' 7 year old grandson's horse that I would seriously buy if he was ever for sale. He is by Triple Go Lucky and was bred to be a roping horse. We are just working on getting him back into a routine as he has just been living in the pasture with the other roping geldings and hasn't had much ever done with him. This horse is one of the reasons I like my job so much and get out of bed in the morning. He is just so cute, has an amazing attitude, and just relaxing to work with.
Dear Santa - All I want for Christmas is this handsome horse and that comfy roping saddle.
Yes I know they aren't the greatest indoor pics but all of them are off my camera phone. There are a bunch more on my Myspace page...yes I jumped on the Myspace bandwagon.
So now you've meet the boys in my life...well minus one potential two legged one, but that I don't want to jinx that yet since nothing has really happened but I have hopes ;) I am having lots of fun having a little more social life than before...I get to hang out with friends that I haven't for 2 years and it is almost like we had seen each other last week instead of years. Anyways that is my life for the past 2 months other than trying to find another part time job to help pay for all those darn student loans which is hard since I am out at the farm until 2ish (only get paid for 4 hours/day though which is so not fun sometimes).
